One of the most common questions we get: "I want a licence for the sea — but which one?" The two big tracks are Otzma B (Meshit 13) for motorboats and Meshit 30 for yachts. The difference is bigger than it seems.
What does each licence allow?
- Otzma B — Meshit 13: operating large, powerful motorboats. Great for fishing, water sports and day trips.
- Meshit 30 — the skipper course: sail or motor yachts up to 24 metres, up to 12 nautical miles offshore. The licence of the sailing world — and the path to the international licence and chartering abroad.
The difference in study
Otzma B is a relatively short, focused track. Meshit 30 is a comprehensive course — ~30 hours of theory (seamanship, coastal navigation, instruments, weather), 4 theory exams, and 15–20 practical hours aboard a yacht.
So which one?
- The sea as leisure — fishing, tubes, coastal cruising? Otzma B will serve you well.
- Dreaming of cruises — sunsets on deck, Greece, chartering abroad? Go for Meshit 30, ideally combined with the ISSA international licence.
- Undecided? Start from the dream, not the licence: where do you see yourself at sea a year from now?
